SOITA: Character Education

During the 2004-5 school year, SOITA will be assisting The Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund in distributing free character education kits to schools in our service region. The kits are designed for K-6 classrooms and include posters, compact discs, baseball cards featuring Reds first baseman Sean Casey, and teacher resource materials. The mission of this initiative is "to increase the awareness and the development of character to create a more respectful society" according to Kim Nuxhall, executive director of the fund and teacher in the Fairfield City Schools. Joe Nuxhall and Sean Casey have worked together to develop the kits to assist elementary teachers in developing good character. Early in 2005, SOITA will be contacting area school districts about how they can receive their kits.

Joe's new book Joe: Rounding Third and Heading for Home chronicles his unique story of being the youngest person ever to play in the major leagues. The profits of his book sales are being donated to his Character Education Fund. The book is available at www.orangefrazer.com.
