What is the Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund?

Newly established in 2003, the Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund will underwrite character development programs and projects for children. As a permanent fund of the Fairfield Community Foundation, the principal of the fund will be invested for maximum growth so that it will continue to help future generations of kids for many years to come.

Why was it Started?

This special purpose fund of the Fairfield Community Foundation was founded to immortalize Joe Nuxhall, who exemplifies philanthropy at its finest. Joe was reared in Hamilton and has lived in Fairfield for more than 45 years. Though known nationally for his contributions to Major League Baseball, Joe has made just as big an impact in Greater Cincinnati with his annual scholarships, volunteer work and his contributions to various charities.

Who will benefit?

Namely, our children, and future children of our area. Books on character development could be given to parents of newborns in the hospital, a Character Choir could sing to preschoolers and an essay contest could be held for middle school children. Video games could be designed. Various character development projects could receive grants from the Joe Nuxhall Character Education Fund. The possibilities are endless.

Where will it be used?

The fund has potential to reach far beyond this geographic area, through the formation of model character development programs that could be used regionally and even nationally. Your contributions have the potential to make a wide impact.

Who can be involved?

You, and anyone else interested in the development of our children's character.

What is the Fairfield Community Foundation?

The Fairfield Community Foundation was started in 1999 by a group of local citizens who wanted to begin a Foundation to benefit Fairfield and Fairfield Township. We are administered by a Board of 11 local, dedicated men and women whose purpose it is to financially promote charitable community, educational and other worthwhile goals. Each spring we award scholarships to deserving high school students, and make other grants. Our funds benefit Scholarships, Parks and Community Beautification, Arts and Culture, Historic Preservation, the Handicapped, Youth and Senior Citizens. As with all community foundations, the principal of our funds is invested and only the interest is used to fund community projects.
